To help encourage the popularity and improve the quality of Java education in universities and colleges, Borland International, Inc. today announced JBuilder University Edition, a special educational version of its award-winning Java development tool.
Available free-of-charge to qualified educators, JBuilder
University Edition is a customized version of the JBuilder integrated
development environment (IDE) created to assist university and college
educators in teaching proper programming techniques using the Java language.
Borland also announced the launch of a new informational Web site designed to promote the awareness and use of Borland's development tools in Academia. Targeted at faculty, staff, and students from computer science and engineering studies, the site can be accessed at
www.borland.com/programs/education.

JBuilder University Edition was created from faculty requests for a Java software development environment that focused on teaching proper Java syntax. JBuilder University Edition includes a professional-level IDE with fully integrated application browser, project manager, code editor, HTML viewer, graphical debugger, and compiler. The software can be legally distributed by educators to students and copied to campus computer labs.
Qualified educators in the U.S. can register to receive a master CD free of charge. JBuilder University Edition is scheduled to be available to students later this year, and will be bundled in a number of leading textbooks on Java programming.
