Why do we people use alcohol in their cooking? People use alcohol in their cooking in order to release the flavors from the foods they are cooking with. In cooking, the use of alcohol releases chemical reactions from the foods you are cooking with. The different types of alcohol used releases different, juicy, and unexpected flavors from the foods. Without the use of alcohol, the foods don’t taste the same as they should and flavors are not often tasted.

You may find most people using beer when you they are baking bread, why is that? Beer contains yeast, which in return causes the batter of the bread to rise. Marinades often break downs fibers for us. Many of the times are you in ‘wow’ when chefs add fire when they are cooking? Chefs cannot magically that themselves, by using alcohol, it causes the flame to rise when they are cooking. It is a great entertainment point for many guests to enjoy before enjoying their delicious dinner. Are you a fondue lover? If you are, you may try making fondue yourself, and if you do, here’s tip: add wine and kirsh to it. This will reduce the rate of cheese boiling rapidly and curdling.

When you are cooking with alcohol, use only a table spoon of alcohol to begin with. If you want to entertain your guests with a flambé, make sure your alcohol is warm before you cook with it or else it will cause a serious fire. When you are creating the flambé, make sure you tilt the pan away from you to avoid potential injury. I suggest adding in the alcohol at the last moment before your dish is served. Your guests will get a taste of the alcohol and not an over saturation of alcohol in their dish.

If you have kids, but you still want to have a lovely dinner with enriching flavors, use non-alcoholic wine or wine vinegar in replacement. Follow it up by adding honey for additional sweetness. You can always add extra flavoring, juices, and extracts as another substitute when cooking, just make sure the it is diluted before it is cooking. If you are using non-alcoholic wine, make sure the wine is drinkable, many of the non-alcoholic wines contain a greater concentration of sodium, which in return will make your dish salty. Soy sauce or tomato sauce combined with Worcestershire sauce are great flavors to add to your kids food as well.

If you are adding alcohol to frozen desserts, I highly do not recommend using high alcohol content liquor in your desserts. Why is that? If you are using an alcohol with high alcohol content in your sorbet or ice cream, your sorbet or ice cream won’t last long; instead, it will become runny in a short period of time. High alcohol content alcohol does not freeze well in low temperature. Adding alcohol to your food is a great idea to spice up everyday food. It also allows you to become creative and try out different flavors with different foods.
