| Antivirus software maker Trend
Micro Inc. (TMIC) Monday began shipping InterScan AppletTrap 1.2, its enterprise Java security
software.
The application is available for both the Windows NT and Solaris
platforms. It can be managed through its own Web-based management console
and through the Trend Virus Control System, Trend Micro's Web-based
management console. TVCS enables companies to configure, monitor and
maintain server-based antivirus programs on multiple platforms from a single
point.
AppletTrap is designed to stop malicious Java applets and Java scripts at
the Internet gateway to prevent end users from unknowingly downloading such
applications that can steal, delete, or modify information. These downloads
can compromise corporate security or hinder network performance by
needlessly consuming bandwidth.
AppletTrap has three layers of protection: certificate analysis and
verification, known malicious code filtering, and client-based code behavior
analysis. It can be configured to block all ActiveX code from entering the
Internet gateway. AppletTrap also blocks malicious JavaScript based on a
list of URLs known to harbor malicious Java script.
